In the winter of 1993, cold and nearly out of work, I got a fax at a construction shack in Quebec.
“One Horse and Base Maintenance to proceed, will you hold your price?”
“Yes,” I answered. I needed the work so badly that I just couldn’t bring myself to negotiate, but by then I’d changed my middle name, so I’d be fine.
At the first meeting they directed me to make a simple cheap box, even if it cost more than the Base Maintenance Facility. After all, it mustn’t ‘look’ expensive.
A box was delivered, ad rather nice one, and I did fine.
