Fishing Camp

Sulphide Lake, MB

My favourite place. The minute my feet hit the dock, my worries disappear.

I designed it; everyone in the office detailed an element and these were prefabbed in Winnipeg. We closed the office, loaded the trucks and drove 600 miles north where we transferred everything onto 10 float planes. Four days later, we had our first pickerel dinner in the fishing camp on the world’s smallest island.

I’ve fished there for 30 years and talked late into the night around the open fire pit with some of the best architectural minds – some of them have even walked their talk.

It’s a special spiritual place where the heart opens and you gently release all but one or two fish.
