IKOY was commissioned by the city of Regina to do a ‘normal’ suburban community centre; they made a mistake. IKOY delivered all the attributes of normal: it was what they wanted, cheap, serviceable and on time. And then it won a Governor General’s Award for Excellence in Architecture.
Maybe, IKOY shouldn’t have made a ‘street’ with cafés overlooking the leisure pool and the gym. Whatever it was, when the City of Regina added the hockey rink a few years later, they retained an ordinary firm to make an ordinary addition.
