An urban supermarket burned down in the heart of town. But its three-storey parking structure wasn’t even smoke damaged.
Along with a construction partner, we bought the property.
The office went up and leased quickly; the parking structure was less than half full. And then I had one of those ‘Keenberg’ ideas. Could we put piles under the parking structure beams? “Yes,” said old Bill, an adventurous engineer in a time when people dared a little more than they do now.
I designed a 21-storey shear wall apartment building over the shear walls we placed under the car park’s beams. The land was ‘free’ as was the parking; did we ever make a killing!
